Thursday June 2nd 530pm-730pm… Riazul Tequilla with Scott Ladden of Franklin Fine Wine.

From the Riazul Website—-

“In the desert Highlands of Mexico, 250 acres of land has been handed down from generation to generation for more than 200 years. This land stood as a pivotal battlefront in the war for Mexican independence. Land where determination and pride prevailed in the struggle for freedom.

Today, this is the land of Riazul — a silky, smooth tequila made from 100% blue agave, honoring the heritage of the land and celebrating the independent spirit of its people.

For too long, the authentic spirit of tequila was lost. Tequila became something to dispose of quickly, with a shiver and a chaser and great fanfare. No longer.

Too many things in life speed by. Good tequila — pure tequila — takes time to mature. And time to enjoy.

No shot glasses. No loud whistles. No chanting, cheering, or slamming.

Just you. Your time. Your space. Your pace.  And a sip perfected over hundreds of years.”

Riazul.

Friday, June 3rd 530pm-730pm: Tasting Wine with Douglas Rankin of Skurnick Wines

The evenings selections will include…

Cava Brut Rose ‘de Nit’, Raventos i Blanc - A Reserva level Cava, ‘de Nit’ is a blend of the traditional Cava grapes: 55% Macabeo, 20% Xarelo, 20% Parrellada with the addition of 5% Monastrell for complexity and its Rosé color. It is produced in the Methode Champenoise and the disgorgement date is printed on the back label.

Chardonnay, ‘Sonoma County’, LIOCO - After four successive vintages with this wine, we are finally achieving what we set out to do. Omitting fruit sources that haven’t performed and refining those that have, has left us with what may be the most “complete” So-Co to date. The 2009 is a blend of Stuhlmuller Vineyard (Alexander Valley), Mazzera Vineyard (Dry Creek), Ricci Vineyard (Carneros), and Valentine Vineyard (Mendocino). The wine features a core of citrus (mostly lemons) and chalky minerality. Adding complexity are notes of orchard fruit and miso paste. This is drier and taughter wine that was the 2008…. A selection of complementary sonoma county vineyards compose this wine. while each site is distinct, they share a common commitment to sustainable horticulture and strident farming. our intention for this wine is to express, as transparently as possible, the unique character of this region. warm days and cool nights, tempered by consistent oceanic fog, yield full and rich chardonnays balanced by brisk acidity.

Indica, LIOCO- Indica is a blend of old-vine Carignan and Petite Sirah from Alvin Tollini’s vintage, plus a nice dollop of gnarly old Mourvedre from a neighboring appellation (Suisun Valley). A blend of old-vine carignan (66%), mourvedre (25%), and petite sirah (9%).the fruit was hand harvested, sorted and then fermented in stainless steel tanks using a wild yeast. malolactic fermentation occurred naturally and finished completely. the wine remained in neutral french oak on fine-lees for 10-months and bottled without fining or filtration.

Zinfandel, ‘Dry Creek’, Dashe Cellars- Dark, complex, mouthfilling, and rich, the Dry Creek Zinfandel is a classic example of why the Dry Creek Valley is so famous for intense zinfandels. The combination of black raspberry and chocolate flavors, combined with its velvety texture, make this a perfect wine for a wide variety of foods—from barbequed or grilled meats, to pastas with hearty sauces, or just by itself before a meal. This is the wine on which Dashe Cellars has made its reputation.
